ABOUT Nathan Elliot Siegel

Nathan is an active performer, educator and composer. He earned his bachelor’s degree in percussion performance with a minor in jazz studies at Indiana University and his master’s degree in percussion performance from the University of Colorado Boulder. Nathan is currently pursuing a DMA in percussion performance and pedagogy at UNT where he is also a Teaching Fellow for the Percussion Department.
At UNT, Nathan has performed with the One o’clock Lab Band, the North Texas Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, Afro-Cuban Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, African Drum and Dance ensemble and the South Indian Cross-Cultural Ensemble. Nathan also maintains an active performance schedule outside of school, playing in local orchestras, jazz bands and as a featured percussion with the North Texas Children’s choir. Nathan has performed with several marching ensembles of which include the Bluecoats, Rhythm X and Vigilantes Indoor Percussion.
As an educator, Nathan has taught at university programs as a teaching assistant, over twenty high school and middle schools across Texas, Indiana and Colorado and a multitude of lessons over the years on percussion, drum set and piano. Nathan has also taught at Legends and Genesis Drum and Bugle corps where he served as the front ensemble caption head. Nathan also maintains a growing online community of percussionists on Instagram where he creates educational content that focuses on keyboard technique, exercises and improvisational ideas.
Nathan is a burgeoning composer of percussion music, writing for high school percussion ensembles, high school drumlines and solo marimba, most recent of which was the premiere of his percussion ensemble “Ark” which was played by the Freshman UNT Percussion ensemble in November 2022. Nathan hopes to write music for the repertoire that is accessible for younger players and beginner to intermediate percussion ensemble programs.
