ABOUT LUIZ CLAUDIO

Percussionist, art educator and producer, Luiz Claudio, born in Belém do Pará, arrived in Maranhão at the end of the 70s. There he learned ancient drumming traditions with masters such as Mestre Bibi from Casa de Cultos Africanos Nagô, Mestre Eusébio Huntó leader from Casa das Minas (Ewe Fon), Mestre Felipe, Mestre Leonardo do Tambor de Crioula and Boi de Zabumba, Humberto do Maracanã from Bumba meu Boi, among many others.

Luiz has played and recorded with famous brazilian and international artists such as, Nelson Ayres, Zeca Baleiro, Monserrat, Chico Cesar, Naná Vasconcelos, Layne Redmond, Alessandra Belloni, Marcos Suzano, Rubens Salles, among many others. In New York, he recorded at the Systems 2 studio with the renowned Brazilian jazz pianist Rubens Salles, played in some concerts and gave a workshop on Brazilian percussive traditions for the Julliard School of Music students. In 2019, he gave a workshop on Brazilian percussion at the Clube do Choro in Paris, France.
